Privacy Policy

Sowaka is a workplace step-challenge app. Your employer (the “Company”) runs a challenge in which you track daily steps and earn “strydes,” appear on a leaderboard, and earn team bonuses. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Account details — your name, email address, username, and the Company you belong to. Provided when your Company invites you or when you sign in.
- Activity data — your daily step count and an hourly breakdown of steps, read directly from your phone’s built-in motion/step sensor. We use this only to compute your steps and strydes.
- Derived challenge data — strydes, streaks, lunch/squad bonuses, team membership, rank, and badges generated from your activity.
- Technical data — basic request logs needed to keep you signed in and to operate the service securely.
We do not collect precise location, contacts, photos, or health data beyond step counts, and we do notuse a device identifier. Steps come only from your phone’s own sensor — on Android the hardware step counter (Physical activity permission), on iOS the phone pedometer (Motion & Fitness). We do not read Health Connect, Google Fit, Apple Health, or Apple Watch data.
How we use it
- To run your Company’s step challenge — counting strydes, showing your ring, leaderboard, team page, and crediting bonuses.
- To keep you signed in and to sync your steps to your account.
- To operate, secure, and debug the service.
We do not sell your personal data or use it for advertising.
Who can see your data
- Within your Company — your name, strydes, rank, and team standing are visible to other members of your Company as part of the leaderboard and squad features. (Your Company’s admin can hide the leaderboard.)
- Service providers — we host data on Supabase (database) and Vercel (application hosting). They process data on our behalf under their own security commitments.
- We disclose data if required by law.
Storage & security
Data is stored on managed cloud infrastructure and transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access tokens are stored only on your device. We retain your data for as long as your account is active.
Your choices & rights
- You can request a copy of your data, correct it, or delete your account and associated data — see the Data & Account Deletion page.
- You can revoke the motion/step permission (Physical activity on Android, Motion & Fitness on iOS) at any time in your phone’s settings; the app will stop reading new steps.
Children
Sowaka is intended for working adults and is not directed to children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy; we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app.
